Phineas I haven't had any e-mails complaining so I'm surmising that either my fans aren't the vocal type or that I have no fans, but if you are one you know that I haven't added anything here for a couple weeks.

A view from a roomView from another room I guess I've been in a bit of a mid-summer funk. At any rate, summer A term classes are done at Wright State so today I treated myself to a new toy, a Canon Powershot S30 3.2 mega-pixel digital camera. Did I need it? No. Should I have bought it? Probably not. Is it fun? Sure.

As you can see, my cat wasn't particularly impressed by my purchase. I took his picture as soon as I'd waited the hour or so it takes to first charge the battery for the camera. We were in the living room and one shot I took was of the front window. I was surprised at how artsy it turned out; I guess it was the combination of the lighting at that time of day and the screen on the window. Feeling encouraged, I took another shot of the wine in my family room. I turned the flash off on that one, since my first attempt with flash didn't quite convey it right. It's blurry but kinda artsy too, don't you think?

I went walking downtown yesterday evening and got some interesting pictures. I love living downtown and I'm glad that other people continue to move down here and open new businesses.

Pearl?
Coming soon to an old diner near you
Yum!

Working hard One that I noticed on my walk is that a new nightclub (which Impact Weekly says will be called "Pearl" although the first letter looks like a "V" to me) is opening next week in the building that used to be the Diner on St. Clair. The Diner concept just wasn't working, at least as it'd been tried in the past, so it's good to see a different plan for that building. I also saw promising signs of life in the bakery that's supposed to open in the St. Clair Lofts.

Some pictures from around downtown Now that I've found a picture layout that I like (written by Jenny Blewitt and available for free at javascript.internet.com), I've posted some of the pics I took the other day in a little online gallery. I have pics from other places too that I might get around to posting so check back.

Today was the start of B term this summer, which means a new set of classes. Yay, no more geology! Ever!!

So I'm taking GER202, which means I still have to study for weekly vocabulary quizzes, the first this term being tomorrow. For TH214, we're reading A Streetcar Named Desire, but we're not discussing it in class until next week so I'm not focusing on it yet. If you want to learn about theatre, the notes are on the professor's web site.

However, in PHL213 (Symbolic Logic) we have quizzes every day, designed to force us to study some daily, probably a good thing. So tonight I'm reviewing antecedents and consequents, and premises and conclusions. Not extremely exciting, but at least I get it, unlike minerals.

Old office This is the week that the various Liberal Arts departments at Wright State get to move back into the renovated Millett Hall, which means that the various TA's will no longer be exiled to the basement of the Creative Arts Center. As you can see from the picture on the right, that office was a bit of a fishbowl, with a big window through which passers-by could gawk at the various worker bees. (Okay, so TA's don't work that hard, but we still got gawked at.)

New office New view The new COM TA offices are actually in the COM department, on the fourth floor in Millett, and we actually get a window, which is a source of some consternation to some professors, such as my GER201 professor, whose new offices do not get windows. And as you can see to the left, it's a great view.
