Dear Members,

I have seen the influx of messages about the "Gay Flight Attendant" story. Although I can see the original humor meant by the message, that type of message, and a few of the replies, have no place on Diversity Dayton's web site. If you wish to send messages similar to these, please do not use this list serve to do so. The members involved will be dealt with appropriately. Please do not write further messages referring to this topic because it is a waste of our time to write and read the numerous emails. For those of us offended or frustrated by this, I apologize. Lets all remember that members of this group should be standing up for all types of people, not standing on them by perpetuating negative stereotypes.

Also, we are having a meeting tonight at Therapy Cafe...see you all there!!

Ha. Ha. Ha. Oh, it's sooo funny to say dirty words and laugh out loud at them. Well, actually it can be funny to say dirty words. We queers can get away with calling each other cocksuckers, in the right situations (a civil rights mailing list not being one), but really, do you think you as a white boy (nice Yahoo profile pic, BTW, xxx [reference white male privilege]) should ever be saying "niga"?

Isn't "Diversity Dayton" about _respecting_ differences? Yeah, you showed that you know you're different from the "towel head, camel jockey, sand niga bitch," but did you show that you have any respect for people who are different from you? LOL, hmm, not.

I for one don't think you should be deleted from the mailing list. I'd rather you continue to participate and try to explain why you think your choice of terms is appropriate and advances the causes of the group. Unfortunately, I don't "really think [you] give a shit" about doing that. Prove me wrong if you'd like, or not.

"one of you even mentioned the term "faggot" which was not used because the "faggot" in this story was not at fault! thus the reasoning for not using the word. who is the raciest now?"

xxx, you should reread his post...I think you missed the point.

"pioneer characteristics to express his feelings instead of burying his head in the sand!"

Stereotypes are pioneering? Wow you're right, it takes real courage to use the term "sand niga", "towel head" and "camel jockey", especially on a civil rights email list serve.

"i have a lot of friends that like me because they know i will speak the truth! i have just as many people that don't like me because they don't want to hear the truth! shit happens and the truth hurts"

xxx, there is a time and a place for your perception of what "truth" is...this is not the place for comments like that, and the fact that you don't understand that reflects on your intelligence and maturity level.

wow! some of you really have got your panties in a bundle! life is not all about ferry dust and drinking cosmos...what life is about is educating each other!

i made a comment that was meant as a joke. i even replied with a commonly known e-mail response of "lol" which we all know means "laugh out loud." now i am not trying to defend myself nor justify my written response nor do i want to get into a ridiculous debate over my first amendment however, since a few of you are in a dire need of a blojob, i will respond!

i apologize that some of you took this offensively but that is not my problem. i am the biggest homo you will ever know and i am called names every single day. i goes in one ear and right out the other...assuming i can hear what you said? lol it is every ones first amendment! Have you heard of "freedom of speech?" who cares...focus your energy elsewhere.
it sounds like some of you have the personality of, if you don't get your way, you'll take your football and go home! instead of that, why not try to educate me on your feelings as i will respond to you. this is how we educate ourselves. we deal with the public. one of you even mentioned the term "faggot" which was not used because the "faggot" in this story was not at fault! thus the reasoning for not using the word. who is the raciest now? if the flight attendant is reading this, i am not calling you this, i am just responding to the wiener who used the term.

i thought our group was called "diversity dayton?" the word diversity means..."the fact or quality of being diverse; difference...a point or respect in which things differ...variety." i am different from each of you just as you are different from the next person. this is what makes life interesting! how about educating yourself on why i made such a comment and learn from it instead of recommending that i be deleted from the mailing list. go right ahead...do you really think i give a shit? if i were in your shoes, i would rather have a "diversified" "faggot" (as paul calls it) on my side who has the pioneer characteristics to express his feelings instead of burying his head in the sand!

in conclusion...get a life and channel your energy to more important battles than my joke. once again, praise to the flight attendant and i'm sure that he'll do it again just as i will express my opinion!

actually, i'll tell you why i don't care for those people. i have worked with them and i have been screwed by them...financially. stereotyping works! it isn't right but it does work. i am who i am! i don't lie, cheat or steal. if the kitchen is too hot, either get out or pour yourself a glass of ice water and cool off! i have a lot of friends that like me because they know i will speak the truth! i have just as many people that don't like me because they don't want to hear the truth! shit happens and the truth hurts! live with that. see you at the meeting on tuesday night!

I think that the comment below speaks for itself in showing that we all have a long way to go in educating people about diversity and equality. Joke or not, its still racist and offensive.

Something else to think about...The only word he didn't use in this message was "faggot".

Peace, xxx

I found this to be offensive, racist, and stereotypical. The people who sent this out need to be removed from the Diversity Dayton group immediately.

You can't build a community this way.

It would have been oversensitive of me, perhaps, to object to a joke that perpetuates gay stereotypes, but I don't think it is to object to the use of offensive terms to describe others, particularly when disseminated on the mailing list of a civil rights group, is it?

Subject: Gay flight attendant..

My flight was being served by an obviously gay flight attendant, who seemed to put everyone in a good mood as he served us food and drinks.

As the plane prepared to descend, he came swishing down the aisle and told us that "Captain Marvey has asked me to announce that he'll be landing the big scary plane shortly, so lovely people, if you could just put your trays up, that would be super."

On his trip back up the aisle, he noticed this well dressed and rather Arabic looking woman hadn't moved a muscle. "Perhaps you didn't hear me over those big brute engines but I asked you to raise your trazy-poo, so the main man can pitty-pat us on the ground."

She calmly turned her head and said, "In my country, I am called a Princess and I take orders from no one."

To which (I swear) the flight attendant replied, without missing a beat, "Well, sweet- cheeks, in my country I'm called a Queen, so I outrank you. Tray-up, Bitch
