New Orleans:   June 2, 2007  June 3, 2007  June 4, 2007  June 5, 2007  June 6, 2007

I went to New Orleans for the National Fair Housing Alliance conference, my first time ever in the city. Today was a short work day, just the annual meeting, so I had some time to explore. I'm staying at the Crowne Plaza Astor in the French Quarter. I took some time to walk down by the river and then back through the Quarter. Then for dinner Justin, a New Orleans native now working in Chicago, shepherded us to a favorite local restaurant of his, Liuzza's, off the tourist-beaten path in Mid-City, my first real glimpse of how slowly New Orleans outside the French Quarter is coming back after Katrina. Had to be up for a meeting, so I saw the sunrise, as well as the Hotel Monteleone's sign, useful when walking about the Quarter for orienting oneself
